My cat chews wires, cords and magic markers. What can we do to stop this?

Though some try to use conditioning to discourage these behaviours, the only foolproof method to protect the cat is to keep them all out of reach. Sometimes if things cannot be locked away or kept out of reach, blocking off a room so that the cat cannot get in will be necessary.

Electric wires and cords can cause burns to mouth and tongue or even electrocution, and ingestion of foreign objects can cause injury, choking, poisoning or blockage of the intestinal tract.
