When Bedtime is Playtime
First,
it is normal behavior for cats to be more active during the
evening/early AM hours as they are, by nature, nocturnal or night
animals. This is why they have an enhanced ability to see in the dark
when compared to other species of animals. Like any pet, cats have a
certain amount of energy that needs to be expended – hopefully in a
constructive fashion and at a time that suits both cat and owner. The
key is to schedule, then train, the time that is set aside as play
time. Select a time that suits your daily routine and follow the same
routine every day. Two 20-to-30 minute time periods should be more than
adequate with first thing in the morning and when you come home from
work ideal. You may also want to look into providing your cat with an
activity center where it can entertain itself. There are many unique
and intriguing options on the marketplace from individual toys to
larger kitty "jungle-gyms".
Hopefully by combining the above suggestions, you'll have the best of
both worlds – quality play time with your cat and a good night's sleep.
